North Beverly Community
The Beverly Improvement Association and residents of Beverly are voicing concern over the new Evergreen Park Retail Development at 92st and Western. Some of the concerns involve the development and if they will incorporate green space. Will they retain existing older trees and greenery? Will there be green buffer areas for water absorption? How much will this affect our traffic with light timing, back-ups and vehicles cut through North Beverly neighborhood? Will the development take into consideration Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety by having sidewalks and visible and audible intersections with working “walk” buttons and countdown timers for people crossing busy Western Avenue? It was cited in a development flier that there are +/- 60,000 vehicles per day at 95ht Street and Western Avenue currently. Will this development also increase crime? Also, will this have a negative impact on existing nearby businesses in Chicago?
Below are interactive maps of the pending development and area of concern. Notice the current gray parking lot of Walmart and Sam’s Club next to the green Evergreen Park Golf Club.
The Beverly Improvement Association (“BIA”) extends an invitation to our concerned members and neighbors to a BIA FLYER.pdf [4.8MB PDF] of the BIA to address the proposed redevelopment of the Evergreen Park Golf Course. The meeting, which will take place on September 8, 2011 at 7:00pm at Holy Nativity on 9300 S Pleasant will give citizens the opportunity to learn more about the development and its impact on the neighborhood. The BIA has invited the key principals associated with the proposed development, including the developer, the realtor, and the Mayor of Evergreen Park to speak to our members on issues such as the environment and traffic. After presentations from the key principals and members of the BIA, the BIA will seek a vote of its members at the meeting to help it formulate its stance on the development. Your participation and voice is critical. Please discuss this Special Meeting with your friends and neighbors and join us.
